PROGRAM AT A GLANCE
The Academic Rules for the Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) program are designed to guide students through the requirements and expectations necessary for successful completion of the degree. These rules cover course progression, assessment standards, and graduation requirements. These ensure that students maintain academic integrity, meet professional standards, and achieve the program’s learning outcomes. All students are expected to familiarize themselves with these rules to support their academic and professional development.
Academic Year and Semester:
There will be two intakes per academic year, consisting of two semester as stated below:
Semester 1: 01 July- December 31 (6 months)
Semester 2 : 01 January- June 30 (6 months)
Program Duration and Course Distribution:
Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) is a 2 -year program. To graduate MPA student needs to complete 51 credit hours comprising of 17 courses including a project paper. Each course consist of 3 credit hours. For each course, a student needs to attend a three hour long lecture per week in a semester. Students are evaluated using the following evaluation methods:

For each lecture course, there are two in-course tests; each test is of minimum one-hour duration carrying 30 marks in total. The duration of the semester final examination is three hours for each course carrying 50 marks. To ensure fair and accurate evaluation, two independent examiners, one of whom is the course teacher, examine all final examination scripts. If of the mark difference is of more than 20% between the two evaluators in any answer script, a third examiner is appointed for evaluation. The total examination process is administered by a three member MPA Program committee.

The grading policy will be as follows:

In the tabulation process, only the total marks (out of 100) of a course will be rounded-up and the published results of the semester will show the grades earned and the grade point average (GPA). The controller of examinations shall publish the cumulative result of the program and shall provide the transcript showing course-wise grades and the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) earned by a MPA candidates for the degree.
Degree Requirements:
A graduate student of the MPA Program shall be entitled to the degree if he / she fulfils the following requirements:
A successful completion of total 51 credit hours [both course works and project paper]
Earn a minimum CGPA of 2.50; and
Completion of all degree requirements with a maximum period of five consecutive academic years including the year of first admission into the program.
Retake:
A student earning ‘F’ grade in a course shall be required to improve the grade by retaking the course on payment of requisite fees offered in the subsequent available semesters. A student earning a grade of ‘B’ or worse may also elect to improve the grade by retaking the course when available in the next semesters on payment of retaking course fees. However, a candidate can not retake any course after graduation. In this case the concerned student shall have to apply to withhold her/his graduation to the Program Committee.
In order to retake a course the student must apply to the Program Committee at least 2 weeks before the commencement of the semester. Any application for retaking a course will automatically lead to cancellation of her/his earlier grade.
Waiver policy:
A student being a member of any recognized professional accounting and finance institution or having a previous graduate degree in areas of accounting, finance, business and economics shall be entitled to a waiver of maximum four [4] courses. Only foundation courses will be subject to waiver decisions. Considering the background of the individual student, waiver on the courses will be determined by the MPA coordination committee. The waiver decision of the program committee is final and cannot be contested. There is a waiver fee equivalent to 50% of the tuition fee only.
Cost of the Program:
Semester Fee (Per Semester): BDT 7,500
Course Fee (Per Credit Hour): BDT 5,000
